33rd Foundation Day of Kerala Muslim Welfare Association.

Started on Friday, 15th April 1988, the Kerala Muslim Welfare Association has come a long way in this National Capital Territory of Delhi.

The organization initially headed by Mr. Abu Baker has got many potential Presidents like Mr. O. Mohammed, Mr. K.M. Jamaludheen, Mr. A.R. Kutty and Mr. KK Basheer currently holding the charge. The organization started as a remedy to circumvent the nostalgic homesickness by a few youth at that time, was with abundance of programmes and activities to showcase including two mega shows of art and culture staged at Siri Fort Auditorium.

Being the only common platform, the presence and participation of its members ensured for every activity concerning Malayalees in general and Malayali Muslims in particular in this capital city. In addition to attending to all the SOS calls of the Malayalees, like accidents, deaths, hospitalization due to chronic diseases etc., and providing unconditional support, the organization initiated activities of;
1) providing Palliative Care to the suffering chronic patients, which has later on made in a focused approach model through an independent organization viz., DNipCare set up and functioning consistently;
2) Imparting modern education to the Madrassa students beginning with the Madrassa of Bengali Market Masjid as a weekend regular programme way back in 2004 which has now been replicated in a value added model and extended to other Madrassas involving many students in the Mehrauli area by the Health Charity Wing of the Association;
3) Annual Social Get-together for Communal Harmony and Iftar during the holy month of Ramzan every year ensuring participation of people from all walks of life, and continuing so far except during the peak period of Covid-19;
4) Capacity building for the common people in the field of Basic Life Support to save the precious lives during the golden hour when somebody is on the verge of cardiac arrest and the programme is again being effectively carried out by the HCW of the Association;
5) Addressing the issues of Malayalees faced with conditions like accidents, deaths, hospitalization due to chronic diseases etc., the Rapid Response Team of the association is always at the forefront to provide required support to the victims.
With the construction and inauguration of building as its own Centre, all the members had got a renewed energy and initiative to carry out the activities, but unfortunately, the Corona has stolen away all the steam leaving more than a year now without much of an activity except the continued efforts of HCW. Reconstituting the team is also overdue and it is expected that the association will be able to bounce back to its past glory with much more activities and participation once the second wave of corona outbreak is subsided.
So let us all celebrate this 33rd foundation day of our esteemed organization, Kerala Muslim Welfare Association, Delhi.
